2 1/4 x 3 1/2 in. CDV on cardstock mount (light spotting, with two areas of possible ink discoloration beneath far right subject; verso with circular area of adhesive residue). Subjects captioned on mount recto, "Frank. Frederick. Alice." Verso with photographers' pictorial imprint below printed information about "The Children of the Battle Field" and statement reading: "The copies are sold in furtherance of the National Sabbath School effort to found in Pennsylvania an Asylum for dependent Orphans of Soldiers; in memorial of our Perpetuated Union." Copyright information printed at bottom.

Copied from a ferrotype found in the hands of the fallen Sgt. Humiston, 154th NY, at Gettysburg, the popular likenesses of "Frank, Frederick & Alice" were widely sold to benefit the fatherless children in an enduring act of wartime charity.
